Salary: £26,016 per annum pro rata (£13.49 per hour)

 

Contract: Fixed - Permanent

Hours: 7.5 Hours per week, Monday to Friday - (Split shifts 07:55 - 08:50 hrs &15:20-15:55 hrs - Term Time Only)

Location: Dunstable Street, Ampthill

About the role:

 

The Road Safety Team manages the school crossing patrol service; officers play a vital role in ensuring the safety of children and families within the community on their journey to and from school. We are looking for a confident, approachable and reliable School Crossing Patrol Officer to join our team in a permanent position. This is an exciting opportunity that plays a key role in promoting a safe crossing place, meeting new people, supporting & teaching safe crossing practices. 

 

We are looking for someone who is friendly, has great communication skills and enjoys working with children. You’ll be happy to work outside in all weathers and prepared to take control of any situations that may arise involving drivers and their vehicles. You must be reliable and good timekeeping is critical. No previous experience or qualifications are required although you must be able to record details of any incidents that may arise.  Uniform, equipment and training will be provided.

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently and courteously with children, parents, drivers, and members of the public.
  • A commitment to promoting and maintaining the safety of children and pedestrians.
  • Good observation skills and attention to detail, enabling you to identify potential hazards and respond appropriately.
  • The ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in challenging or busy traffic situations.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Confidence in working independently and following established safety procedures.
  • The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • A positive, friendly, and approachable manner.
  • Experience of working with the public or in a customer-facing role, although this is not essential.
  • An understanding of the importance of safeguarding and protecting children.

 

No previous School Crossing Patrol experience is required, as full training will be provided. However, candidates should be enthusiastic about supporting their local community and helping children travel safely to and from school.
